National Prayer Day

11:52:00 AM

Today is National Prayer Day.  I was reminded on Facebook of this day from fellow friends and family and thought as part of my devotion today I would remind myself and others the importance of prayer!

Join me today as I pray for the following...

::  Our world.  Our country as well as many other countries in the world have experienced devastating natural disasters, raging wars, famine and severe poverty.  Although we cannot physically stop these things from happening, nor can we possibly understand why some of these things take place... I do find rest in knowing that our God is a God of goodness, self control and all-knowing.  So although I pray against natural disasters, war and other worldly afflictions, my main prayer is that people will turn to HIM before, during and after these things occur and that God's reign would be allowed to be seen publicly in the media.

My prayer is not for them alone.  I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.  May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.  I have given them the glory (sacred or set apart) that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one.  I in them and you in me.  May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
 ~John 17:20-23

Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord.
~ Lamentations 2:19

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.
~John 17:33

::  Our country, it's leaders and the people.  It's hard to watch the news these days without seeing all the negative things that are taking place.  I pray for goodness to prevail among this country's leaders and people and that God would come back into the picture.

You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
~ Psalm 18:28

::  Each other.  Lift your brothers and sisters up in prayer.  I have found that sometimes amidst my own "darkness" there is nothing better to lift your own spirit than to pray for someone else in need.  Jesus asked that we pray for our brothers and sisters.  We should pray for those not out of obligation but out of love.

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
~ John 15:12

::  Yourself.  I know sometimes I feel like it is selfish to pray for myself when there are so many other things taking place in the world that are so much worse.  But that's why God is so awesome.  His concern is the same for us no matter the situation.  So whether you are praying for a life threatening health concern, praying for your baby to sleep through the night or you are praying for that task to be completed at work... HE hears your cry!  It is our job to wait in expectation in knowing that God WILL answer according to His will and that our salvation and His death on the cross was to redeem us from all things... great and small.

In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my request before you and wait in expectation.
~Psalm 5:3
